This drink is perfect year round and I've never shared this but we HAVE prepared it often for guests -- who've verified my judgment. A bartender gave us his recipe after we tasted, and raved, about his drink at the Chicago Trade Mart -- I stopped shopping to taste it after Bill called me.
I don't think I went back to shopping.
So you can try it for yourself -- this is just for one drink:
1.5 oz Buffalo Trace
1 oz Aperol
2 oz fresh tangerine juice (this is the only alteration we have made, as tangerine juice is tough to come by. Go to Whole Foods.)
1/2 oz simple syrup (1:1 ratio)
4 drops aromatic bitters
3 drops orange bitters
Put it all together and serve over ice.
Try it and tell me what you think.
Frankly, because this doesn't taste as good with any other bourbon, I'm waiting for Buffalo Trace to find me and offer to pay big bucks for this now copyrighted recipe.
