Practically ALL my friends have taste, so . . .
I'm not a HUGE joiner but there is a new group I'm pretty interested in. You might be, too. It's called Friends with Taste. This group was formed last year when the new Hospitality and Culinary Academy opened on the Johnson County Community College campus.
The mission of Friends with Taste is to financially support the culinary students, teams and equipment needed to keep JCCC at the forefront of culinary education in Kansas City and beyond. To join, a member pays an annual fee, as low as $100, that is considered a direct donation to the culinary programming at JCCC. After that, members are free to attend any number of classes, tastings, dinners or events for a small fee, which goes to cover the cost of the class and any remaining funds go back to the culinary program at JCCC. It's largely putting together events that appeal to the food-centric, chef-driven interests of the foodie community (for lack of better terms, truly!) while raising assets that support the future chefs of Kansas City who are training at JCCC.
Friends with Taste is celebrating its first year and they are having a one year anniversary party that promises good food, great wine and plenty of song. Tickets for this event are on sale now, and all proceeds from this event will go to support the JCCC culinary program. This is their biggest fundraiser of 2014 and they hope that this event will entice new members, like you and me, to join the club.
Tickets are on sale now for Wine Lovers, the Friends with Taste One Year Anniversary Party
July 26th, 2014
6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
JCCC is bringing to campus a unique interactive musical production called "Wine Lovers - the Musical.” This 3-person musical comedy, tells the tale of a man and a woman who fall in love with each other at a wine tasting class. The audience members will taste and learn about six different wines along with the cast. The wines have all been selected by Master Sommelier and Master of Wine, Doug Frost.
Prior to the play, we will be hosting a lavish 3-course anniversary dinner inside the new Hospitality and Culinary Academy with Chef Ryan Brazeal of Novel Restaurant (who is a proud graduate of the JCCC culinary program) in the kitchen. Chef Ryan will be closing his Westside restaurant, Novel, for this one night as he and his staff dedicate themselves to preparing this dinner. Local wine expert, Doug Frost, who is a Master of Wine and a Master Sommelier, will be on hand, as well. He has selected all of the wines for Chef Ryan's dinner and will be at the dinner pouring them for our guests.
RECEPTION & SHOW: $75 per person to attend a wine reception with light appetizers (food by Chef Ryan & wines selected by Doug) before seeing Wine Lover’s - The Musical.
DINNER & SHOW: $175 per person gets you Chef Ryan Brazeal's 3-course dinner and Doug Frost's wine pairings and education, and finally you’ll see and experience, Wine Lover’s - The Musical.
THE VIP TREATMENT: $500 per person VIP Status that gets you a private VIP reception with Chef Ryan and Doug, then prime seating and recognition at dinner and front row for Wine Lovers - The Musical.
