It is worth celebrating, truly . . .
Restaurant Week, January 16-25th, is well worth your time and (limited) money. It's a fab way to check out restaurants you've always wanted to try -- as well as an inexpensive way to go back to favorites. This is the sixth year and each year it's gotten more popular, with more restaurants participating (some 160 now) and more eaters eating. Do make reservations now, especially if you're trying to get in on weekends, the only time some of us seem to eat out.
The other nice part is that the restaurants donate 10% of your meal price ($15 for lunch; $33 for dinner) to five different charities: BoysGrow, Children's Center for the Visually Impaired, and Cultivate Kansas City have been added to the KC Regional Destination Development Foundation and the Greater KC Restaurant Association Education Foundation (now there's a catchy name). Learn more about each of these organizations at www.kcrestaurantweek.com and look below for beneficiaries. Over $600k has been raised since this hoopla began in 2009.
This might also be your opportunity, if you're determined to eat out on the weekend, to REALLY go crazy, REALLY experiment, and REALLY live the high life -- at many places you'll have to eat AFTER 8:30 pm. The Kansas City favorite 6-7 pm is already booked at many places. Dining later is so much better than missing the reasons for all the hype.
