If You're Going to PV Sometime Soon
Last trip we went to what seemed like probably too many high end places. All delicious. So do, by all means, go to Vista Grill, La Leche, La Palapa (where we continue to eat ... but wait 2015 note: service has really deteriorated and not just according to us, either) , Café des Artistes, and if I think of the others, I'll write again. But this time we tried to tone it down a bit (for reasons unknown) and were just as happy. There are lots of great choices. But I'll start with one that you can skip.
Don't bother with Playa Los Arcos in Olas Altas. Just mediocre breakfast. But the people were nice.
One of the nicest surprises: Burros Bar, right across the bridge of the Cuale River on Muertos beach. It looks hugely touristy, and it probably is, complete to the guy outside saying, "Come in, my friends, come in." Typically, that's when we shake our heads and walk on quickly. Even the card he gave me said, WE DARE YOU TO COME IN! See previous sentence.
BUT it WAS ocean front, there was fun music, and the guy was just so nice. (Actually, that's a recurring theme in Puerto Vallarta.) We were told they were known for their perfect margaritas and "nachos deluxe." And they should be. That's exactly what we had (and then a beer cuz we had miles to walk) and as we left we said, "Huh. We should have eaten more." (And maybe taken a picture. But we had to gear up for dinner.)
And just so you know I'm not exaggerating, below is my breakfast plate from Playa Los Arcos. Why I took this picture is beyond me.
But Burros cheered us right up, with what seemed to be only a few hours later.
Now, Some Good Places
We went to Michel's without knowing too much about it, but it was also a delightful surprise. And I'm not just talking about that weird creature sitting on the bar, pictured among the others, below.
